THE LEGACY

OF THE KALIZMA

LEGACY

HOLLYWOOD ROYALTY

In 1967, two of Hollywood’s' most famous actors chartered her for a cruise in the western Mediterranean. By the end of the cruise the two had developed a love for the yacht, which like their love for one another was an endless romance. They were none other than Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, who were and continue to be legends to this day.

On purchase they named the yacht Kalizma after their three daughters Kate, Liza and Maria.

Kalizma was one of the renowned priceless gifts that Burton gave to Taylor, however this was a gift that kept giving. She was a haven away from the prying eyes of the media and the world.  It was onboard the Kalizma that the 69 carat diamond, that Burton bought from Cartier, was delivered to Tayler for her to wear in Monaco at Princess Grace's Scorpio Ball.

A yacht that has sailed UNIMAGINABLE frontiers and has been the toast of commoners and royals alike.

LEGACY

S/Y MINONA

S/Y Minona (now M/Y Kalizma) was commissioned, at the height of the "Golden Age", as a luxury private yacht for a famed businessman and Vice Commodore of the Royal Eastern Yacht Club.

Designed by none other than G.L. Watson himself in 1904, and built in1906  by the famous Scottish yacht builders Ramage and Ferguson, her design encompassed much of the elegance and luxuries of the time.

Despite having lines from the renowned for speed "clipper ships", the Kalizma was not built to race although was center stage at many international yacht races, including the America's Cup in 1983 where she was the host to Royalty.

Kalizma's history can be accurately traced. She has been acclaimed by many for her lines and sea worthiness, the quality of her build and the good taste in which she was designed. Owned throughout history by the wealthy, the famous and elite and notable yachtsmen, there isn't a yacht today that has a lineage that can match that of the Kalizma.

LEGACY

SURVIVED WORLD WARS

A luxury yacht that also served her country in both World Wars.

In WWI, she served  in the Auxiliary Patrol Fleet of the British Royal Navy from 1914 through to 1920. The S/Y Minona is documented by Sir Archibald Hurd as being armed and charged to the rescue of four steamers against a German U-Boat.

In WWII she served in the British Royal Navy between 1939 and 1945, where she was referred to as H.M.S. Minona and served as a base ship for the  Deep Sea Rescue Service in Campbeltown under the command of  Lt. Commander R.D. Robinson, who even christened his daughter to the ships bells.

LEGACY
